ConvergeSouth registration for 2006 is closed. We have 100 more registrants than anticpated and we are thrilled to see everyone on October 13 at the barbecue and October 14 for the conference.

Facebook & Social Networking Session @ ConvergeSouth

Led by Bill Wood and Lisa Lewis of NC A&T, this session is geared toward A&T students. The topic includes the dos and don'ts of Facebook and other social networking sites. As sessions are requested, we are working to meet the demand. ConvergeSouth expands to meet the need -- that's why it's an 'un'conference.

Robert and Maryam Scoble are hosting a you-pay-for-yourself dinner in downtown Greensboro at Thai Pan on South Elm Street on Saturday night, October 14. Be sure to sign up for dinner on the dinner wiki before all the slots are gone. Some of the dinners are already filled but if you want to attend, let us know and we'll work on bigger reservations.

The list of those registering for ConvergeSouth automatically generates (thanks to the Firelace guys) an online list with links to their blogs or other URLs. Be sure to check out who's attending to be impressed, to arrange rides, or to figure out who you should be sure to meet. (As of 7:30 pm on 09/06/06, there are 82 registered people. Be sure to register yourself so there's room for you. This even-year conference has a smaller registration cutoff than last year's 2-day event.)

We've had requests for podcasts of ConvergeSouth sessions from some folks who can't attend. We're pretty sure we can get video from the good folks at A&T (but not Webcasts). Can you help with podcasts? There are 3 sessions on the Web side of the conference that we especially want to capture on podcasts (the sessions do not overlap). Elizabeth Edwards will lead the opening session of ConvergeSouth. The topic will be building Web communities. Elizabeth is a veteran of the John Edwards '04 and Kerry/Edwards campaigns, a key participant in the One America Committee community, and an author who is immersed in another kind of coummunity built around her story of illness and recovery. This is not a political session, even though Elizabeth Edwards is involved in politics. (Read more at Ed's blog.)

Maryam insists that she interview Sue for "Digital Divas." We're thinking of getting a group of Greensboro's Digital Divas together for one of Maryam's famous interviews. If you live here and have time Friday and are a Digital Diva, get in touch. We're at the initial stages of organizing this fun girl event that really isn't part of ConvergeSouth but could be fun!

Just heard from the just-returned Robert Scoble tonight. He and Maryam will be here for ConvergeSouth. The topic is settling in so check back for updates.

The volunteer guys at Firelace are going YouTube with our ConvergeSouth media server. You can view or submit video and we have our own ConvergeSouth-talent YouTube-like repository. Now all we need are submissions.

Ed Cone's snappy bio has been added to the ConvergeSouth leader's list. He won an award once.

ConvergeSouth 2006 launched its Web site this morning, August 10, 2006 and it's new media server is online and taking video, photo, and audio submissions. Click here for the ConvergeSouth media server. The media server is donated year-round by Carolinanet and is maintained by the good folk at Firelace.
