Be Creative Online for Kudos and a Small Prize

synerG is a nonprofit; the Young Professionals wing of Action Greensboro. Their Web site is old and in need of a rebuild. We're offering small prizes and lots of online credit for the best home page and secondary page redesigns.

 

Rules of the contest:

Who can participate?

Anyone. You don't have to live in Greensboro or be registered for ConvergeSouth. This contest is open to any creative Web person who wishes to enter.

Prizes

  1. You'll get a permanent tasteful link on the home page to your design shop or Web site.
  2. You'll get a page on "About Us" with your photo and business summary with a description of this contest.
  3. We will help you get as much publicity as we can.
  4. We'll keep your business cards handy and make sure all of synerG has a copy.
  5. TechTriad, who usually donates all the design for Action Greensboro, synerG, Center City Park and the ballpark sites (plus countless other civic sites) is offering a small cash award of $500 for the winning entry.

Deliverables:

  1. One HTML home page with CSS style sheet and any temporary graphics/images (we are not accepting .jpg or .psd mockups, please)
  2. One HTML secondary page (to be made into the site template) with CSS style sheet and any temporary graphics/images
  3. Deliver these files in a .zip or .sit file on or before Friday, November 10, 2006 to this email address: contest@actiongreensboro.org
    Be sure to include your contact info on a .txt file inside the compressed file.
  4. Flash: we will use Flash on the site, but are not creating a total Flash site. You do not have to deliver the Flash but can (a) indicate where it goes or (b) add Flash!
  5. The Game: synerG owns the original Flash file for the TRIVIA game currently on the site's home page. That game can and will be extended, upgraded and grown. Plan for it.

Look and Feel Goals

  1. The site should be young, contemporary, new, different, cutting-edge, out there, and colorful.
  2. We will include RSS feed on some pages
  3. There will be video snippets on the home page and on some secondary pages. They should anchor the secondary pages, if possible, but it's not a rule.
  4. We have access to a Media Server to put GetDown! Town music files.
  5. Must be all-browser compliant , ADA compliant, WC3 compliant
  6. Users will edit with Adobe/Macromedia Contribute software except for any admin functions which our programmers will build.
  7. Colors? See the synerG logo here.
  8. MOST IMPORTANT: Make this site design creative, fun, enjoyable, easy to navigate, include the main links but leave room to add more. Don't break any search engine rules. Give us text to help out the SEO campaign.

Site Links

Site links are not completely defined, but use these as a rule of thumb while leaving us room to add more:

  1. Connecting Around the Table (sign up for every-other-month dinners with ecommerce)
  2. Area for the annual GetDown! Town synerG welcome back to college downtown party (can be a directory or subdomain)
  3. NOT KEEPING: Building Momentum, Top Employers, Discussion Board, Affiliates
  4. News/Updates/Press Releases to be included with RSS feed
  5. Not keeping synerG profiles
  6. Leader Development is under construction in a subdomain and should link to the new site build
  7. Obviously, "contact us," "about us," and "home."
